Before moving to Memphis, Ranise was involved in rescue in Chicago for a little over 5 years. She started out doing events and raising money, then moved on to volunteering with handling and dog walking, and eventually became a board member for another rescue for more than 2 years. She then became a foster coordinator for ALIVE. Ranise took what she learned in Chicago and has started our very first “branch” to help reduce the extensive overpopulation problem in Memphis. Ranise shares her home with Zelda, the very first dog rescued by ALIVE Rescue Memphis, and has two other foster failures from the program in Memphis, Patty and Sprout. Ranise’s previous dog, Anita Riot, was her inspiration for getting into rescue.

Morgan Hughes,
Volunteer Coordinator

I have lived in Memphis for most of my life, and was raised to love and fight for animals at a young age. It all started with my first childhood dog, Sidney, who was a temperamental boxer- but a love bug to me. I learned to take care of him and love him despite his quirks, and we moved all around the country together. He taught me patience, love, and helped me to realize how dogs can change your life. I still miss him, and I think about him all the time as I try to save more dogs like him. I started getting involved in rescue at 19, fostering with a friend, and foster failing twice. I have worked with ALIVE for about 3 years now, and this group has helped me to harness my potential as a volunteer coordinator. I love getting people involved, raising money, educating, and learning more myself about rescue in Memphis. I share my home with 4 rescue pups who are all very unique.
